I thought you had never had Firestone's beer, or was it their 2x IPA?

I vaguely remember saying that I'd never tried the Double Jack but that situation has been rectified.

Well what do you think? It's my favorite IPA

I like Pliny/Hop Hammer better but F-W does not make a bad beer that I have been able to find.

You can't hardly get them anywhere. Every once in a while somebody will tap a keg of Pliny around here. When that happens it's a big deal. That's why I just make it myself.

Drez is right, Hop Hammer is really Pliny 2.0. There's just under a pound of hops for a 5 gal. batch.

How close did you get? Just asking cause sometimes clones aren't quite right

The "clone" recipe here is from Russian River.  Now, it has changed a bit in the years but it will get you close.  I have made it a few times.

What did you think of this clone recipe? To be honest Pliny never really blew me away and sometimes the homebrew version can be way better.

It was a good beer and enjoyed be all that had it, I served it at a charity event and people went nuts for it including several commercial brewers,  but I much prefer Blind Pig.  I recently did a "inspired by" Blind Pig IPA that I loved.

I wasn't trying to clone anything, just wanted to brew an IIPA and thought that looked like a good recipe. And it was! I really liked the way it came out and plan to brew it again.

I brewed something very close to this recipe. I subbed MO for the 2-row and used WLP002@67 for the yeast. I also did the dry hops in one dose.

Side by side with Union Jack this recipe is very close. The bottle of UJ was on the older side so my hops came through much better but otherwise it's very close on the malt, body, etc.

Pretty good clone IMO.

Never had any of their beer. Can you describe this one as you see it?

It's got the classic west coast c-hop profile, but more malty and fuller bodied than the typical ultra-dry, light bodied west coast double ipas. It's still dry but has more malt backbone there.
