Today is the day I dry hop my Denny's Rye IPA. When I opened up my bucket I found this floating on top of the beer. Is this mold or something worse or is it nothing to worry about. My buddy's beer which is sitting right next to mine in the fermentator looks fine.Posted ImageDan

Yup a infection. The quicker you drink and the colder it is the slower the process. This is a sanitation issue. That bucket is toast for normal beers.

A lot of times you see a thread like this I hope it's just yeast. Yeast has a tendency to float around and sometimes come to the surface. But this does not look like yeast. It does look like some kind of infection. I usually don't know what kind of infection because I consider them all to be bad although I know some people do this on purpose. If it tastes okay, it's possible to rack out from underneath it and try to keep from getting that white, powdery stuff into the destination vessel.Also... you know what's weird about that shot? There's no yeast ring around the surface of the beer. Where's the crusty ring-o-yeast? It looks like wort or beer that was poured into a VERY clean bucket. Usually a beer that just finished fermenting has yeast around the surface of the primary. ?
