Just transfer a batch from the Speidel.  When quick with the valve and it was a breeze to clean.  I know I won't get rid of all my carboys, one was my grandfathers, but will be letting some go. (I think I have 8)

I make cyser occasionally, so can't see getting rid of mine. I let it sit in primary at least a year. Once my next keg of beer kicks I need to keg one that's been sitting for I think three years. Then I can get another batch going this fall.

They are great for bulk aging wine mead cider etc.

I've used better bottles for I think 9-12 months of cider fermentation and aging before finishing aging in a keg. This was with a transfer from one better bottle to another somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure if glass would have been better but it worked okay for me.

For not regular use I could see using glass for this kind of thing though. I'd just be super careful.

Yeah, I'm sure the better bottle is great. If one of my carboys broke I would replace with that.

looking at my notes I started fermenting on 10/22/11, racked on 2/17/12, kegged on 7/1/12.  So almost 9 months of better bottle time I guess.

my most recent cider went from start to keg in about 6 months.  I'm not sure how I decide when to rack and keg :P

I've always done 4-6 months in primary for ciders. Cysers I just let sit in primary until I get thirsty or tired of looking at it.

I’ve got some better bottles too. I’ve been trying to sell my glass for a while, seems like no one wants them

I sold some of my glass a while back. I asked the guy what he was brewing and turns out he wasn't a brewer at all. He was going to use them to make sealed terrariums. I still have some 6 and 6.5 gallon carboys left and one of these days I might try and do the same with them.

Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that! I think that’s what I’ll do with mine.

do you ever need to clean a terrarium out and then put the stuff back in?

From my reading on it, no. You just seal it up and that’s that.

My second Speidel arrived today. Gonna brew something this weekend, not sure exactly what, though.

Both of the Speidels are rocking along right now. Brewed a tripel yesterday and a Kveik DIPA today. The Kveik took off within 2 hours of pitching yeast.
