I have been avoiding this thread since I am one of those the OP is ferreting out. I've not brewed since prolly 2010. Between starting up that lam business, taking a new day job that has a ton of lattitude if enough time is put in, buying a second home....my free time is highly limited and what little I have is spent with the wife and getting outdoors. It's been like 2 years for me. I'm going to clean the brewery and get a batch going this month, though. I go through times of brewing like crazy, but I will settle into 4-5 brews a year. That's more than I consume already. At one point I brewed at least once a month, but then I started drinking just to keep room cleared out (on top of what I just gave away) and put on like 50 pounds. If I brew 40 gallons, I'll still end up giving tons away. I don't see how the guys who brew more like a hundred gallons do it, unless they have a dozen friends over every weekend.

Hey Denny. The next yeast I have that I'm about to do a starter on is the Wyeast Denny's Favorite. I want to do the Community Brew this weekend, but my not be able to get the specialty grains in time. This yeast should be good in a simple IPA (maybe only 2 row, wheat, and possibly some Munich), huh? It's my first time using it. I have lots of hops and 2 row and wheat at the very least.

It's good in pretty much any Am. style or any style where you want a pretty clean yeast and a rich, silky mouthfeel.

It makes a killer porter. Try it in my BVIP recipe. Leave out the B&V and it's a killer porter on it's own, or as a base for a coffee porter.

Thanks Denny. I only have pale malts on hand. If I get caught doing a simple two malt ale, I'll still be saving yeast for the bank. I really want to do the community brew. We'll see. I'm running out of time.Oh, and I like the silky mouthfeel aspect. I have a couple of beers I could use that on.

must....respond....to...thread....haven't brewed a beer since Dec. (2-hearted clone), BUT, have had a sake working for WAY longer than anticipated. I started in Feb - if it turns out I'll post something full of verbal petardness in the Wine, Mead, Cider forum. If it turns out nasty I'll hang my head and drink it all up in shame). Racking this Saturday so the plan is to do the imperial red I have all the ingredients for either this or next weekend.Typically, I'm a once every 6 to 8 weeks kinda brewer. In that "I-know-what-I-like-and-I-can-brew-it-as-I-need-it" phase. I love to brew, but can't justify doing more right now. If I had an outlet for the beer I brew I'd do more, but, as it is, gonna be this for now.

Get some cheap 1/2 gallon jug growlers and give it to your friends. Just tell them to bring the jugs back if they expect to get any more. :P

Got mine in as well. It sure felt good. We had 7 brewers at our Big Brew. It was a blast. Ate and drank a lot! Weather was in the upper 90's, so it was hot, and a little tough getting the wort chilled down. I had to come home and put my carboy in the bathtub with a bag of ice on top and a wet towel.Came in an hour later to find that I had forgoten the blowoff tube..doh! Big, no, huge yeast monster growing out of the airlock. I am getting a massive fermentation with Denny's Favorite from Wyeast (1450). I did an IPA with first wort hops.

I got a blowoff on my denny's Fav batch last week, but my 1.25' blow off tube was not forgotten
