better price than amazon? weird stuff.
it seems like there are a lot more players in this game now. I see thermoworks has a couple of options as well as a company called apera that has a couple of pretty affordable options.

for $80 that general with the calibration solutions (I assume those are all the solutions I'd need) seems like a pretty solid deal.
eta: oh I guess most of these things comes with calibration solutions in the case
the apera is even cheaper at $46! that's getting into a price range that is hard to resist for your cheap pal mando
eta2: although I guess +/-0.1 accuracy isn't great for homebrewing. I'd probably want one more SD.

I have seen this one and I would just get the Omega from their website.
Eta... The link Matt posted does have a great price. Tough choice

Have you heard of the apera unit for just under $80?
anything I buy on amazon is essentially 5% off b/c of the amazon credit card.

yeah - the omega when not on sale is pretty pricey. $125 + $15 shipping = $140.
the general or the apera for ~$80 seems like it might be worth the risk. I agree though that if the prices were closer I'd just go with the Omega since you and matt have both had such good experiences with them.

I have always had good experience with Omega products. All my thermocouples are from them as well.

I did find a thread on HBT where a guy did some kind of stability test that seemed to be promising.

alright - I ordered the apera from amazon. I'll be the test subject around here for it. I'll also compare it to my old colorphast strips for anyone that still uses those.

I had one and it was awful. So happy with my Omega.
Great to know!

so I'm assuming most pH meters work more or less the same way. I'll need to calibrate it before I use it, pull a sample in a shot glass or something and let it cool off to some temperature close to room temp and take a reading?

That is what I do but my Omega does not need calibration each time.

Is it usually in the bottles water area of the store?
That is where I have always found it. What do you need it for with your meter? Storage? I just use storage liquid but I know all meters are different.
