Finished at about 1.008-1.009 and the OG was 1.049. Just over 5%is good for me.
Sounds great.

I wasn't familiar with this beer so I looked it up and see that it's a pale ale with Cascade. Last weekend I went to the local bottle shop to look for just that... an APA with Cascade or other hop that is similar. Really hard to find and this bottle shop is big. So many sours, IPAs, IIPAs, stouts and funk beers. Quite a few porters too. Of course they had a lot of "gold lagers". I looked and looked and finding an APA like that is not easy. I have a beer going into a keg any day now that is a 5% APA finished with late Cascade and Glacier. I plan to make another one too. I ended up walking out of the bottle shop with a 12er of Daisy Cutter (heavy, heavy Citra) and something called Paled It! from Saugatuck Brewing which was also very cirtusy. I don't mind that type of beer but I feel like it's overdone and finding a nice pale ale with a cleaner finishing hop is something I'm always interested in. The late hops can have BIG flavor but how about something like Liberty or Santiam or Glacier (one of my favorites) or Crystal or Ultra... some cleaner hops?
do you get Mirror Pond pale in IL?

I have seen it but it's been a LONG TIME.
There used to be a good number of these pale ales. Schlafly had one, Two Brothers had one (Bitter End, I think) among others but it doesn't seem like consumers want this anymore. George commented about this awhile back too. Even if you *do* see one, it's usually pretty indistinguishable from an IPA in that it's 6% or higher and loaded with fruity hops in the finish. It can be fruity to a point (Lagunitas IPA uses Cascade and Willamette) but some woodiness or dankness is more my speed and those are disappearing so I guess I have to make it myself.

It would be nice if there were a return to more of the classic flavors but I do like both. Totally get what you're saying however. I lean toward the dankness in a APA. Sorta tired of all the citrus/melon bombs out there.

Pilsner. Overall I am happy but I need to take the IBU's down a smidge next time. I like the S-189, defiantly more malty.

did you use some carapils copper in that? looks pretty dark (not that I care as I sometimes make pilsners with vienna malt as half my base).

1.5#'s of Vienna. But the Vienna I have is about 5-6L so it adds some color. Or I oxidized it while brewing . I think it is the picture as well, not as dark in person. Maybe golden ale is a better name than Pilsner?
Same beer, different angle

spent the day racking leaves and hauling them off to a collection site. 7 trips. decided to break out a legacy brew. Barrel project a buddy and I did- 10.2% ABV R.I.S. we did ten gallons- when we bottled, we spilt between force carbed and bottle conditioned. It took 6 months for the bottles to carb up; this is the bottle carbed version. Time has been very kind- very boozy young- everything has mellowed and flavors came together very well. Its a year and a half old at this time. 9 bottles left.
Good thing i'm not driving anywhere!
