OK, I'll give you that. Get 10 miles from the coast and you're the punchline to a Jeff Foxworthy joke. But I still don't understand why two southern rock bands wouldn't work down south. (And don'tcha ever call me a northerner again, k?)Are you kidding me? Drive 20 minutes outside of Tampa and you are in redneckville. Many commute into Tampa too (me). The northerner transplants say "yall" in about 2 weeks. They are rednecks within months. If you recall I had a rattle snake in my yard last week and gators in the pond. So, yes, Tampa is in the South. We are just higher class rednecks.

I don't ddrain the initial liquid and add 2 more infusions when I batch sparge. My initial runnings are half my final volume with one more equal runoff. My efficiency is 83-86% this way, if I left sugar behind I am not concerned about it.Makes a little bit more sense, but your explanation is still convoluted. With each "batch" you are rinsing the grains of residual sugar. After my initial drain (when I batch sparged), I would have at least two more additions. I agree, the batch method is quicker when it comes to the draining, but in theory, if you have a good mainfold, your efficiency shouldn't suffer from what you get from a batch sparge. I've already demonstrated that my manifold has a nominal difference in efficiency between batch sparging and fly sparging. Whether you are fly or batch sparging, the process is still rinsing the sugars off the grain. Is it necessary to have a manifold to batch sparge? Nope.

Same here. 1 sparge gets me in the same ballpark. 2 or more sparges seems like it's just adding unnecessary work for most brews, but I have done it a few times for large grain bills that prevented me from squeezing all the water in my relatively small tun.I don't ddrain the initial liquid and add 2 more infusions when I batch sparge. My initial runnings are half my final volume with one more equal runoff. My efficiency is 83-86% this way, if I left sugar behind I am not concerned about it.

Which direction do I have to look to see you? NW?OK, I'll give you that. Get 10 miles from the coast and you're the punchline to a Jeff Foxworthy joke. But I still don't understand why two southern rock bands wouldn't work down south. (And don'tcha ever call me a northerner again, k?)

psssttt... anifold-may... don't tell DennyToday I ordered the 1/2" ball valves for my kettle and mash tun. Now I either just have to build a manifold or get a braid. I am so close to being able to do all grain...yeah!

Is there a standard length that you should get. Just in case I change my mind, can I get a long one so that it snakes back on itself (more is better right?).I don't use the spring - seem to be doing A-OK.

no idea - I've seen people do the long ones that loop around. Mine is a little under a foot in length but either would work probably. Is there a standard length that you should get. Just in case I change my mind, can I get a long one so that it snakes back on itself (more is better right?).
