Whatever you want. Most of mine are pellets. I don't think you can be too picky these days.

very much this, get what you can

I've never brewed with whole hops before. Thought it might be good to try something different.

Mine are all pellets. Whole hops are awesome if you have a way to strain them out. Also have to get yourself the right varieties of course.

If you're draining your boil from a ball valve use a Chore Boy stainless scrubber. It'll hold all the hops back. I've gone as far as using a 5 gal paint strainer bag and putting that inside a plastic bucket (hold it though) and potting my wort into that. As soon as I could lift the keg I dumped the rest into it.Maybe have your hands good and sanitized or wear some sanitary gloves, but you'll need to squeeze the wort out into the bucket. There will be so much trub (mud) in the strainer, that you have to squeeze the wort out of the hops and hold the bag to the side that doesn't have trub all over it. It makes for a very clear beer, too. The hops work well as a filtering agent.

Thinking of calling an audible here. Instead of my original plan of Chinook, Simcoe & Amarillo, I'm considering going with all Falconer's. Thoughts?

Only used them once. Heavy on the grapefruit.

true - I was just wondering if I should be using that or my CNC pale malt. I see it says GB origin but just curious what the original intent was.

I presume it was to increase the maltiness.

I used a lot of Falconer's in mine. It was pretty much done fermenting yesterday, I will go pull a sample and see how it is.

Alright, I pulled a sample. Now I had some issues with efficiency in this brew, so I only started at 1.053. It fermented down to 1.016, so just shy of 5% ABV :stabby:Not overly bitter, with a nice slick rye "spiciness" going on. Flavor hops are resinous pine and grapefruit. The nose has a bit of fresh grass and resin. Mouth feel is very indicative of chewing on a hop. The complex malt backbone is led by the rye, but has some nice caramel underneath of it for all these hops to stand on. I wish I would have hit my numbers on this. It is a very good beer. I would definitely try to make this again. Can't wait till it is carbed up. I put a bit of thought into dry hopping this sucker, and it would certainly benefit from it, but I think for this run I will keep it as it. It already has a lot of hops invested in it.

I remember you talking about using FF recently but it didn't click in my mind that it was this beer. Thanks for the review. Would you recommend all Falconer's or maybe throw some Amarillo in too?

Probably. If there's golfing shenanigans afoot on Saturday I might do it Sunday instead.

You could probably use all Falconers. It is a blend, so it kind of covers a lot of bases. Especially in a beer like this that doesn't have a 60 minute addition. A little Amarillo wouldn't hurt it though.

I'm likely gonna have to brew a basic IPA cause we have no homebrew store in the area and I can't get what I need in time (nobody in the club has anything I need). I'll prolly just save some of my starter (Denny's Fav) in a separate container and use it for the starter when I brew this one. <_<
