I got everything I needed, but only for a 5 gallon batch. I got the last 2 lbs of rye :stabby: I also got an extra pound of Munich by accident. Centennial's were also $4 an oz  so I think I may just sub out all the hops for Falconer's Flight. I was thinking about just doubling the base malt plus a few pounds to make a 10 gal version of this with half of the specialties. Any reason I should be talked out of doing this?

It would certainly change the beer to cut all of the non-base malts in half. If that's what you want by all means...

I guess I could swing back through once they get their shipment. I have a few days before I will be able to get at my yeast cake anyway. I just hate to brew 5 gallon batches. It just seems wasteful when I have the capacity.

you could use 1/2 wheat malt or unmalted rye if you feel adventurous

I'm guessing this recipe would fall under BJCP Style 23?

I call it an American Amber, it's not weird enough for 23 IMHO

Hmm. That might work. I'm going to be brewing this on May 5. So I figured I might as well bottle up some and start entering comps with it. No time like the present.

I went back to the store and got the rest of the malt, so I am back to the original plan. I think that I am still using just Falconer's Flight for the hops though.

That's what I tagged it in the recipe. Could maybe make a case for APA. Definitely not 23.

That's no joke. 23 is the place for your coconut butter pecan marshmallow smoked porter.

I'm getting ready to order the hops. We're using whole hops on this, right?

Whatever you want. Most of mine are pellets. I don't think you can be too picky these days.
