I'm planning to do a couple of 2.5g batches this week.  Session IPA and a robust porter.  Looking for easy as possible, so this will be extract batches.  Everything on the stovetop.  I don't want to have to dig through all my packed away equipment so there will likely be a notable lack of monitoring, readings, etc.  Boil, chill, pitch, drink.  Not much outside that.

I've brewed once since 2015 so there could be some issues...

I used BRY-97 once.  The beer was fine but man was that a sloooow starting yeast.

I've heard that, but as far as I remember I haven't seen it.  I'll pay attention this time.

Boiling on my session ipa now. Extract is way easy. I might actually brew occasionally if this doesn't turn out horribly.

I threw mine in the freezer last night.  Granted, I did not boil it at all because I see no point in that with extract and a NEIPA.

Halfway through the boil on a batch of Great Lakes' Burning River Ale.  Got a fresh slurry (1wk old) of WY1028 London Ale on deck.

Looking forward to this one in a month or so.

I'd love to try no boil but I haven't done it so I went with what I know.  You aren't concerned about bacteria/etc. on the hops?

What temp do you guys pitch your US-05?

When I use US-05, it usually hits a wort of ~60°F.  During the primary, I try to keep the wort temp at around 65° or so.

Hmmm...pretty low.  My recollection is that US-05 is clean up to 70.  No?

I pitch a blend of 04 and 05 and pitch at 66 and let it go up to 72 for hazy beers.  For west coast style I will pitch at 65/66 and let it go to 68 then at the end ramp up to 72 so it will finish.

185* will take care of anything on the hops.  I am not concerned.

It is pretty clean up to 70, maybe higher, but I prefer the results I get when US-05 stays b/w 60-65°.

So for no boil you just heat to 185 and chill?

I went completely off the cuff on the recipes on these.  I think I am a little short on the roasted malts for the robust porter, I did 4oz of chocolate and 2oz of black for 3g post boil (so, 1/2lb and 1/4lb for a 5 gal batch).  We'll see how it goes.

Heat to 185 and then add in my whirlpool hops and let sit for 20-30 minutes then chill and pitch.

Had a taste yesterday on day 11 and I was happy with it.  Needs a few more days to crash and condition but I see this as a nice and quick option.

will be interested to hear what you think after some conditioning.  right now it sounds like you aren't super enthused if I'm reading it right but also it's not like you made something that isn't enjoyable either.

The second 4-6oz sample was better than the first.  It would not pour at first so I had to flush the beer out with CO2 and there was a bit of debris in glass #1.  I did expect more aroma but that may come with a bit of conditioning and more CO2.  That is not the fault of the DME though.  If I did not know it was an extract beer I would have assumed it was all grain.  I got no twang or typical extract taste.  It is 80% there right now and that will go higher with some conditioning time IMO.  I will not hesitate to do this again just with a few less hops  :D
