The latest board kerfuffel caused some links to end up dead. I brought this to Scott's attention and he said they would be fixed eventually.Welp, it appears from several posts above in this thread pics are disappearing again. I use imgur. Anyone else?

It's just as good as the previous 6 batches and maybe I should have kept it instead of retiring it. Anyway, this is a recipe that I'm particularly fond of and proud of because it's so drinkable and it's a beer that I envisioned making when I started brewing in 1999. Had I known that it would take me 15+ years to get it right, I might have gone over to the needlepoint forum instead. Cheers Beerheads.

These were the beers I was meant to make and drink. I'm floored by how good this very simple recipe came out. Two grains. One hop variety added only one time. Great yeast and suitable water.

Looks good Ken. What would be a good commercial example of a Dunkel to pick up for R&D? The style interests me but I'm not sure if it's too malty for my schedule yet.
Andechs or Ayinger are the ones I reach for in the store.

On the maltiness: It's a balance with this style (like many others) where you have Munich 2, pilsner and carafa. You can get the right percentage of Munich 2 and pilsner malt for your palate and you can also adjust the water to help you. For this style I want to avoid that overly-malty finish. It's a malty style so you need to have SOME of that but bumping the sulfate just a hint can help to get a slightly drier finish in the beer that makes you want to
