Its actually more deep amber/orange than that. There was another pic of it I posted several days ago. It's either the whiteness of the fridge or color temp. of the bulb that makes it look that red. Im calling it a Winter ESB because...
1. I lack creativity/motivation when naming my beers
2. I made and I am drinking it in winter.
3. I would probably not use 10 ozs. of Fawcett's C85 in a Summer ESB

makes sense. too much dark crystal can be tough to take in the summer heat.

Yeah it was a really cool place. As you've seen DG, Surly spared no expense on this place. The food downstairs was phenomenal too. Apparently there is an upscale restaurant upstairs but the stuff we had downstairs was better than any brewery food we've ever had. All the beers were phenomenal. Downside is that they are big enough now that MN. law won't allow them any takeout sales. No cans, no growlers. Wish I knew that before I showed up.
DG thanks for the offer, I'll let you know next time pending the circumstances… a weekend (without kids) in the cities was my wife and my Christmas present to each other.

No worries, just throwing it out there.

Nice. I have 2-3 from every year from 2007 on. Waiting for 2016 to come out now.Blast from the past. I had a couple of these in the back of the fridge. Almost forgot about them. This is very tasty. It's aged very well. Carb is perfect, caramel is prominent, no oxidation.

I went with no fining agents on this beer. Curious how much it drops out over the lifespan of the keg. I think the leaf hops of the oils of something really changed the mouthfeel of this one.

I usually add some Amarillo when I use Citra but I didn't in this case. This is probably the first time I have made a beer like this with all one hop. I am noticing a very good amount of apricot or peach with the Citra. I find that Citra is not nearly as "citrusy" as Amarillo.
I wanted to stay away from amarillo because of a few issues. Now that I think I have a bad batch I am going to give it a go again. Amarillo and Citra are

I know. When it's done right the combination is great, I agree. My guess is that I still hop a beer like that less than most people but I still enjoy the character of it. Also, I have never had the 'petroleum' issue with Amarillo as some others mentioned. That would be vey discouraging to say the least. Cheers.I wanted to stay away from amarillo because of a few issues. Now that I think I have a bad batch I am going to give it a go again. Amarillo and Citra are
