I took a look at mine last night and there was 0 krausen left. Took a sample Wed and last night and were both at 1.017 from 1.062. I brewed it on Saturday and it took off within a couple hours and was steady for a few days. It seems like this got done fairly quickly. I'll take another sample on Sat. but I think that's it. It tasted really good though, good rye and hop flavor. Is anyone planning on dry-hopping this?

I thought about dry hopping it. Certainly that's an option as this is closer to an IPA than an AAA. I'll wait until I get a taste of the gravity sample sometime this weekend. If there is plenty of hop aroma I won't but if I feel it needs a boost, I might consider dry hopping an ounce or two of FF and/or Amarillo.

That does look good. Mine seemed to be more brownish going into the fermenter.

maybe a diff pale chocolate malt? otherwise I would expect most of those grains to contribute more red than brown.

damn - that really dried out! did you purposely make the OG lower? Mine was around 1.058.

Did you use the 1450 yeast? Mine doesnt seem to want to budge below 1.017 OG 1.061.

I used 1056. I like its clean finish. My OG was deliberately lower. I wanted more of a "session" strength beer.

This one was a fail for me. Mashed in, hit temp dead on. About an hour later, heard a crashing sound in the garage - went out to find the mash tun on the floor and hot sticky wort and grain all over the place. On the upside, I now have a clean garage, which I probably needed more than 5 gallons of beer. If I hadn't been so bummed at the time I would have taken some pictures. :banghead:

I had a less than spectacular brew day myself. I'm starting to think this recipe is cursed. :P

Maybe, I'm glad I didn't brew it?
