So, a while back I got a microscope and hemacytometer for counting cells. I hadnt really gotten started with it yet, and recently I saw on ebay a a piece that you could use to convert a webcam to a microscope camera. So after some ebaying and then tinkering today, I have first shots from the setup.I just tossed a few pinches of bakers yeast in a glass for the purposes of testing. So the first image is the lowest power image used to find where you are on the hemacytometer. I was surprised at how bad it was. I tried everything I could, but this was the best I could get it focused. I was about to get really mad and quit, but fortunately I pressed on.The second is the next power up. This is the one I will more than likely use for counting. And the last picture I got is the next power up.I know the pictures are not super awesome, but I dont think they are bad since I dont remember how much I have in the whole setup, but I am almost positive its less than 100 bucks and maybe less than 75.I was running short of time when I was doing this today, and I didnt get to try the last objective. It is a 100X oil immersion. Isnt beer science fun!!!

In case anyone is wondering, the setup I have is and American Optical Model 10. This is the binocular model, I only have a monocular one.I got the webcam adapter from a seller on ebay named dealerdomain. You can just search ebay for "microscope adapter webcam" and it should come up.In the auction, there is a list of compatible webcams you can hack and install the adapter into. I got the Logitech quickcam pro 5000.

Geek :DGood to see you got this setup up and running. I remember when you were talking about it this past spring. One more thing to share with the new little one and justify continuing to brew. "Honey I have to keep brewing so I can teach her to use the microscope!"

You say that like its a bad thing. hahaOooooh no, you got to put the time in on the keg cleaner and scrub brush before you get microscope time. I figure those small and bendy arms will really get the inside tops of the kegs shining!Geek
