About 12% of the mash - masa tamal not flaked maize or cornmeal.  The sparge was a bit flaky but manageable.  Brew time was about usual.

i'm not quite ready to do a chicha yet

The US-05 I've been harvesting from the starter forever.  I need to get a few more strains going again.  The 1272 ant in the starter went down the drain.

Propane taxi is doing a coupon for first time orders (-$10) Got two exchanges coming tomorrow. Dealing with everyone around here annoys the crap out of me when things were normal.

Have an all malt light lager/ale that I dosed with glucoamylase and amylase to dry out some, bubbling away that I brewed friday.

I've been playing with glucoamylase a bit lately - it does dry things out a lot

I got a Blue Rhino tank and a tank I bought and refill at U-Haul. The stamp has expired. I will find out tommorow if U-Haul notices and refuses to refill it. If they do not, I guess it will get turned into Blue Rhino or some other service.

Took my unbranded, plain old white, but expired tank to U-Haul. The guy noticed the expiration and told me he could not fill it. I told him I understood and was not asking for him to break any rules. He then went on and explained more the why's and the how's of a tank that is old and how he is not allowed to refill a tank that is more than 12 years old. I repeated that I know about that and I was not expecting him to refill that tank. Next he went into the math, the tank was stamped 2005. 2005 plus 12 = 2017, so the tank was more than 12 years old. I replied "Yes, it is too old. You cannot refill it." Then he want and told me about the dangers of filling an older tank and how it might weak and cause a fir or an explosion. He did not want to be responsible for that.

Finally I asked him what options U-Haul had for a new tank. I could buy one for $35.00. I do not know if $35.00 included a propane fill. I would consider that. Owning my own tank and I can get it filled when it is half empty has some value to me.

I ended up at Walmart, turned in the old tank, got a new filled up tank for $15.00. I started my brew day with one full Blue Rhino tank and one full Amerigas tank. I use one until it is dry, then go to the back up and exchange the dry tank. I get my money's worth and always have at least 1 full tank. Which is something to consider when you live in earthquake country.

Bottled Denny's Little RIPA today.

This was another Pico C brew using a Pico Pak. Yield from a 5L (1.33 Gallon) batch was actually about 1.25 Gallons) which came out to 12 - 12 oz. bottles plus 2 - 6.8 oz. (200ml) bottles

Time to go back in the recipe book and bring out some that have not been brewed in a while.  This one goes back to 2016.  I changes the water a bit, making it lower is SO4, and that was it.  I remember this beer from when I brewed it 4 years ago so I have high hopes.  I need to stick with beers that are under 5.5% -6% going forward.  I have a big IPA on from a batch I messed up and I just do not drink it that often.  Rather something I can enjoy a few of.

Nice! Looks like a good beer for the fall. I love everything with rye. And more love for 1450.

I'm brewing today, water heating now. First time since I think May. Hopefully a delicious IPA. I'm throwing a bunch of hops at it. I'm trying to clear out my freezer so I can justify purchasing some fresh stuff this fall. When I get back to the brew cave I will post the recipe.

This one is based on Westbrook One Claw.  I looked and it looked like they no longer use Nelson in there.  I am guessing it was a supply thing.

I also have to clean some hops.  Some are just old and others I just do not see using, random shit I bought.  I need to get back in the brewing mood.  I still have not kegged my Amarillo saison I did 2 months ago.  Just too much going on but I am trying to make some time for beer!

Oh nice! I have drank that beer plenty of times.

I hear ya on the brewing mood. A lot going on here as well. I have my saison still on tap, just tapped second keg. I don't go through the beer I used to either. We used to have people over here all the time to drink, now not so much.

Here is what I'm brewing today.

I like the look of that.  A nice throwback westcoast IPA.  The late Chinook and El Do will be nice.

That yeast selection looks good as well!!

I've got three batches in so far this year (June, July, September). Hoping to brew more frequently with the smaller, more hands off system. Hoping to do a helles this weekend.

I think so too.

I'm trying to come up with a dry hop plan. I will be out of town and away from the beer from Oct. 2nd through Oct. 12th. I can adjust temps but won't be able to add hops or anything else. I was thinking the first round of DH either today or in a couple days. The second I was hoping the beer would finish and I could cold crash it for a day or two and push out the yeast. Then bring it back to 65 and throw in round #2. I guess it just depends on how it goes.

Hello gang....new here. Seems like a nice place.

I have a Belgian dubbel on tap (down to the last keg....stuff is yummy). I'm lagering a dark Czech lager out of Gordon Strong's book and I'm gearing up for a regular ol' pale ale over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Oh, and frick 2020.

Yeah I was looking for a mead recipe that I thought was in Schramm's book (but isn't) and thought I might have posted it here. So while I'm here I thought I'd stick my nose in the door and say "hi".
