I keep accidentally deleting my own posts. The porter I made came out very nice. I at least partially attribute that to the castle chocolate malt. That stuff is great.

I did. Then I deleted it!

Base malt was 2-row with a few pounds of maris otter (old supply, using it up)

2lb castle chocolate malt
2oz black patent
7oz crystal 80
1oz special b (because I ran out of crystal 80)

I used a combo of Columbus and willamette to bitter at 30 to something like 45 ibus. Then I used 1oz columbus, 2oz willamette at 0 min.

Fermented with bry-97.

Gravity started at 1.058 and ended at 1.010.

sometimes these types of beers struggle to drop all the way down because of all of the specialty malts.  fortunately not an issue this time :)

I buy it from Jasper's in Nashua. $2/lb I think. Not too bad for specialty malt.

I'm pretty sure he does ship but I don't know on the shipping costs. Next time we meet up remind me to pick you up some. I find it smoother than what I usually get from breiss.

Me too! I've been thinking about pre-smoking a bunch of wings for the winter. Just grill or bake as needed. I still smoke stuff in the winter but not as often since my smoker is a good 200+ft from the house.

shipping on 5lbs is $8 :(

it's not too far off the beaten path in Nashua if you are ever passing through or as I said whenever we meet up next I can try to plan to get some for you.

So everyone has thier own definition of Porter perfection but for me this is pretty close.

Is it smooth or roasty? I am drinking a Heretic Shallow Grave porter and the label says smooth but my taste buds are saying too roasty.

Probably more smooth but a tiny amount of bite from the BP.

Moved the porter to serving kegs today and grabbed a couple of mason jars of junk from the bottom. Hoping to make some drez apa this week with one jar so I don't need to make a starter. I'll save the second jar for a later date.

I guess it wasn't awful. It went rather smoothly - just a case of bottles and the rest went into a 3g corny.

just drained some drez chinook-citra APA.  I'm pretty much out of chinook now so unless my hop heaven order shows up I may have to do something a little different for the dry hop for at least for one of the kegs.
