I do 2 L starters for normal-sized ales. 2 liters of water, 200 grams of DME. For lagers and big ales, I double that. For anything larger than that, I brew a batch of beer with the yeast and repitch the entire yeast cake.Ok two days in the fridge it is. I will brew on Monday.Hmmmm I will learn later how to make bigger starters. I just followed the recommendations which was 1000 ml of water and 4 oz of DME. How do you guys do it?

Guess I can chalk this up to learning, or I could have pitched it directly and saved myself this step haha ha. So the question is if I have a 2liter flask, do I need a bigger one for 2 liter starters? I'm hoping not!I do 2 L starters for normal-sized ales. 2 liters of water, 200 grams of DME. No, you can squeak by with a 2L flask. Hey at least you know how to make starters now so it wasn't wasted effort.Guess I can chalk this up to learning, or I could have pitched it directly and saved myself this step haha ha. different brands of flasks will have different amounts of head space so the best way is to do a dry run. take 200g of table sugar and throw it into your flask with 2L of water and see if you can have mild vortex going without spillingGuess I can chalk this up to learning, or I could have pitched it directly and saved myself this step haha ha. I think that with a bigger starter, I will boil the water in a pan then place the contents into a glass 1 gallon jug once it has cooled of followed by putting it on the stir plate. I am hoping that this will work.different brands of flasks will have different amounts of head space so the best way is to do a dry run. take 200g of table sugar and throw it into your flask with 2L of water and see if you can have mild vortex going without spilling

A gallon jug won't work with a stir plate.I think that with a bigger starter, I will boil the water in a pan then place the contents into a glass 1 gallon jug once it has cooled of followed by putting it on the stir plate. I am hoping that this will work.
