well good to know, still in favor of this beer over Glissade but not the ESB. IMHO will do much better on the retail shelf here, at least in Colorado...SNBC has the whole "they only brew hop bomb" perception here. I LOVE the stout, porter, and kellerweiss but of the 2 stores I have run I can't sell the darks worth a damn, and the kellerweiss I have to handsell to really move it.Our lauter won't really handle more rye without slowing it seriously down or screwing the pooch entirely.MolBasser

I talked with some Bear Republic guys and asked them about their lautering of Hop Rod 18% and they say it is a slow (very) process and a giant pain in the ass.So, you can not buy it all you like.Brew one, and get back to me....:)MolBasserI don't buy it. Either it is looked at as a slight, unacceptable bottleneck in production or someone needs to learn how to lauter. Hell, charge a few more cents to make it worth the while.

Homebrewing and commercial are different animals. I routinely brew 25+% ryes. I would guess that homebrew efficiency (~85% to the kettle) lets me have a grist that is coarser than SN can with the proper profit margin. I'll pay more for it done properly (ie. my wayI talked with some Bear Republic guys and asked them about their lautering of Hop Rod 18% and they say it is a slow (very) process and a giant pain in the ass.So, you can not buy it all you like.Brew one, and get back to me.... :)MolBasser

I know of a brewer that used to do a 100% wheat , they stoppedYou're right, it is a decision. I could go into a lot of details of why it is the right decision but that would violate my CDA.We could brew 100% rye if we really wanted to (the Bear Republic guys did it once and their quote was "never again") but we don't want to.MolBasser

Basser, people keep asking me "why don't they use rice hulls?". I tell them that it's probably impractiocal for you guys to do that. Is there a better answer? Our lauter won't really handle more rye without slowing it seriously down or screwing the pooch entirely.MolBasser

I've brewed a lot more than one, with 18-40% rye and never had a slow or stuck runoff. If you guys just batch sparged using a toilet hose....I talked with some Bear Republic guys and asked them about their lautering of Hop Rod 18% and they say it is a slow (very) process and a giant pain in the ass.So, you can not buy it all you like.Brew one, and get back to me.... :)MolBasser
