Sounds like it may compare to Terrapin's offering. My buddy grabbed me a few bottles while in GA the other day. Looking forward to trying it.

Its definately doing its job. :frank: Pretty tasty though I expected more rye out of it. W00t.

Yeah, I think the hops need to be backed off a little, or the Rye malt needs to be up'd. The hops just seem to take it over. Not a complaint because I love hoppy brews, just an observation. ;)

Terrapin Rye when it is on tap, is VERY hard to beat. Used to be my go to beer at a bar nearby.

Meh, it's not bad. I can drink it but like said by someone else it sure as hell aint no session beer.

You saying there is some hops in there? If so maybe its worth getting out of the cooler.

Had a half-warm one tonight. Did have a good hop presence, but not sure what type of hop. Although I don't think it's one of my favorite varieties. Not bad by any means, just one of those hop varieties that kinda leaves a funny flavor in my mouth. And I agree, could use some more malt to back it up. But, I really need to try a cold one and reassess. Great color though, just what I was expecting.

Not really at all. Terrapin's is very fairly soft on the bittering hops with focus on the hop finish. Plus, they use a less attenuative strain, which leaves a bit of malt. Just a great pale ale.The Ruthless Rye has more of that classic SN dry finish and is quite bitter.

It does have that nice, dry finish that I think is characteristic of SN products. As I mentioned in another thread, though, that stuff gives me gas like I've never dealt with before. If I could sell it to the military, war as we know it would end.

When I first smelled it the aroma reminded me of DC RIPA. RRIPA is much more bitter and dryer in the finish. I'd almost say there are Mt Hood hops in the RRIPA. I do wish there was more rye spiciness/character. I think basser said they were limited by their equipment in how much rye they could put in because of stuck mashes.Cheers,Rich

Bittered with Bravo then Chinook and an experimental hop for arome. Dry hopped with Chinook, Citra and the experimental hop. That is according to their website, I wonder if the experimental hop is HBC342 like they have at CBC right now.

I saw this in the grocery store yesterday. I was tempted until I saw "IPA". Bleh. I am past my "see what drinking a very bitter beer is like" phase. Is there a good rye that is not an IPA?

Have you had Hop Rod Rye by Bear Republic? Not sure if they classify it as an IPA, but it isn't too bitter at all. You live in an area that probably has it all over the place. ;)

bear republic makes a roggenbier, which is essentially a wheat beer with rye substituted for wheat, i believe.

BevMo had some on the shelf, but not in the chiller. Picked up a six pack, will try it tonight. And I did chastise the guy behind the counter for not having the new SN product on deck in the chiller. Evidently, the phrase "Son I Am Disappoint." only brings puzzlement to the workers at BevMo.
