Sinamar, to heck with Reinheitsgebot :(

Since it's made of grain, it's R'gebot compliant. Not that I give a shit about the R'gebot. Remember, it was about the taxes, not the beer.

There's 40 pints in a 5 gallon corny, so if 1 drop gets you where you want in a pint of beer, then you can add 40 drops to the keg to get to the same color. Or 53.3 drops if you dose a 12 oz glass.

I add it to the kettle, pull some wort with a Pyrex measuring cup, look at the color, adjust if needed.

Thanks, this is the info I was looking for.Beach

Weizenrostmalz (roasted wheat) is interesting, it says only for ales such as altbier.I have not tried this but it matches Denny's recipe description. I assume it is this product:https://www.northern...late-wheat.html

I've used it a number of times. It has a quite mild roast flacor, not unlike Carafa Special

I've used it a few times but never in an Alt, but it is similar - I suppose being huskless helps. I've noticed that with roasted rye too.

Thanks, I'll have to try this. I've had some but I don't think it traveled well to KC. Maybe someday I can try some fresh.............

My efficiency on this one was abysmal, you might target 1.048 or 50.

I say absolutely no carapils. If you used melanoidin, I'd keep it really low...like undetectable. :D

And I will have to disagree. Lots of ways to get there but IMO melanoidin belongs there - easier than doing a decoction. Not that an outstanding Alt can be made without it but I never leave it out after a lot of tries. carapils, yeah, ditch it.

alright - carapils is out. I do like aromatic so I think I'll keep that in at about 1/4lb.

It depends if you want to try to clone a traditional alt, or create your own FrankenAlt.
