If you were consistently getting the same flavor (including cans and draft), it wasn't light struck beer but rather DMS. DMS is the signature flavor of Rolling Rock.IIRC, the worst I ever had on a consistent basis was Rolling Rock. That crap needed to be chilled to near freezing temps and then only the first few sips before it climbed 2 degrees tasted ok. After that, it was like giving Pepe LePew a BJ. Sorry to be so descriptive, but if I wanted to suck on something that smelled like a skunk... well, I could suck on a skunk, right? And who wants to do that? Haven't touched the stuff in well over a decade... maybe more.

I don't think I ever had Rolling Rock out of a can, and I know I never ordered it from draft, so I just always assumed it was the poor judgment to use green bottles... much like Stella Artois. I work in a large company and the Executive V.P. of my area believes Stella to be a refined beverage. I don't have the heart to tell him it's basically the Budweiser of Europe. Just because it has a fancy name, doesn't mean it's quality. If you were consistently getting the same flavor (including cans and draft), it wasn't light struck beer but rather DMS. I can see why some people don't like Stella but I find it to be alright - not my favorite by any means but not awful.I don't think I ever had Rolling Rock out of a can, and I know I never ordered it from draft, so I just always assumed it was the poor judgment to use green bottles... much like Stella Artois. I pretty much consider it a BMC... so maybe I should call it BMCS? If I HAD to drink a BMCS and was offered one of two, here is how it would shake out.BM = MBC = BBS = SMC = MMS = MCS = SI spent 10 years in Wisconsin... hard not to get around the Miller... Never liked Coors, but interestingly enough was handed one at a kids birthday party by the dad, who happens to be GERMAN and actually KNOWS better. But to be polite... I choked it down. It was all he had on hand for the party in terms of adult beverages.I can see why some people don't like Stella but I find it to be alright - not my favorite by any means but not awful.

I wonder the same thing about the vitriol flung at Fat Tire. Its... OK...its certainly not Budweiser... But why the hate?I can see why some people don't like Stella but I find it to be alright - not my favorite by any means but not awful.

Taste and overcarbonation. It's just, ok. Nothing special about it at all.Based on taste or something else?

I'm not sure if it's an issue of expectations versus reality or what but I agree with you here. These aren't beers I'd put on the same level as Bud. I can drink these beers but I might consider turning down a bud if no one would get offended.I wonder the same thing about the vitriol flung at Fat Tire. Its... OK...its certainly not Budweiser... Are you talking about the Amber Wheat? I had a beer rep give me a bottle of the Hop Hound Amber Wheat when it first came out. The next time I saw him he asked me what I thought of it. I literally said "meh". He laughed. It's their reconstituted Sun Dog.As for worst beers, you guys and gals obviously didn't take the road I took.Pearl --> Yes, from MillerKeystone Light --> Yes, from CoorsLaBatt's Blue (f you hockey guys) -- Yes, sucks donkeys that other donkeys won't suckAny beer that has the words "Ice" , "Lite/Light" or "Lime" in it.Any beer that is 100% Columbus hopped, and that includes Racer 5 (though I love the rest of the Bear Republic offerings, a Red Rocket Ale is always in the fridge). Columbus hops just make me gag. Don't know what it is.Guinness Extra Stout --> I used to tout this as the beer to end all beers. Then one day Blktre said "Guinness sucks, I'll make you a stout that will knock you socks off'. Well, socks were knocked off and I became a home brewer.I could go on, but you don't want to hear about my bartending days.Oh, and just finished off my last bottle of Schlafly Reserve 2007 Barleywine. Good stuff. I plan on serving this to select folks at my wife's art opening on the 9th. Yummmm.Had a hop hound ale the other day, made by Michelobe I guess. The beer should not be called that. It was a little sweet and overall just very uninspired. Certainly no hops.

Didn't know they were brewed for Kroger, but if so this explains it.Firehouse Ales: These are beers brewed for Kroger, (grocery store chain). Thin, watery, some are almost flat. The only thing going for them is, they are cheap.

Wow, just goes to show how perceptions can vary. My take is:Rogue Shakespeare Stout - exceptionally good beerSierra Nevada ESB - geniusOmmegang Hennepin - wonderful interpretation of the styleBiggest non-huge letdown breweries that I know of (warning, the results may be controversial):RogueToo much f-ing hops in every beer.Leinenkugel'sI swear, 99% of their beer is made for the female masses.Sierra NevadaBesides the pale ale which is just O.K., I have been let down by all their others.Bass AleSeriously, what's so fab about it. Maybe it's better fresh in the U.K.OmmegangI've yet to had my socks knocked off, these are less than mediocre imitations of real Belgians. And one Dishonorable Mention:Sam AdamsMost their beers are pretty good, but what were they thinking with the Hefeweizen and Pale Ale???

I don't qualify as a belgian expert but this Rare Vos I've got here could be in my top 5 commercial beers. It's really excellent - my favorite belgian style beer I've had to date. Have you had it?OmmegangI've yet to had my socks knocked off, these are less than mediocre imitations of real Belgians.

Yes, I've had it. No, I didn't like it at all. However, with so many people coming to defend Ommegang, I'll give them a few more chances to see if there's something I've missed.I don't qualify as a belgian expert but this Rare Vos I've got here could be in my top 5 commercial beers.
