Something triggered this in my brain. What hops do you really dislike?I'll start with simcoe. That hop is teh bleh.cat urine in a beer.BrewBasser

I'm not fond of Cluster.I tried some Palisade a few beers ago and didn't care for it. Not dump-worthy, but I won't buy them again.I kinda like Simcoe - I certainly don't get cat-piss from them - our taste receptors must experience them differently.

Cascade :smilielol:

I've heard many respected brewers dislike this one.... can I ask is it the hop in any incarnation you hate or just where cascade is the big front hop? Do you like other citrusy hops?Just curiosity here, cascade always reminds me of my first brews :)

I dunno, just never liked it. It's not like I'll turn down a beer that's made with Cascade, but I don't use it myself. I much prefer the other citrusy hops, especially Amarillo.

personally I like it more if it's reserved for flavor and aroma additions, I like it less as a bittering hop, Cascade that is.

Hmm. I don't think I can name a hop I don't like. I have tried many and they have all been good with me. If I find one though I know where to post it as well.

Fuggles, unless it is buried in a complex beer. Crystal, sorry - not for me. Simcoe is great, guess I don't have the cat piss gene. Cluster, not a fav but it did use some for a flameout addition recently. My wife and I both though it smelled good - so in it went. Some of the high coho's are reserved for big beers that will match up with it. Have a lot of Chinooks that will have to wait their turn.I'm a bit confused about Cascades. Drew says the pros are currently down on it. Fine with me maybe the price will drop. When I get some around 6 -7 AAUs I like them. And that's happened around here more than once.Nobody has mentioned Summit yet, have not had those around for a while. Weird onion/chives odor in the bag but AFAIC a nice C-hop when it's in the boil.

Willamette. Every beer I have ever brewed with it turns out overly sweet. I dont know why this is but it only happens with this hop.

Very interesting you said "sweet". My experience with Palisade, which was described as a Super-Willamette, was the same. The beer attenuated just fine... it was an ESB type brew that went from 1.056 to 1.012. But man did it taste sweet - not malty sweet either - just funky hop sweet. Never again.

Thats exactly what I get. Not my cup of tea, as I like my beers to be on the dry bitter side.

hmm, I just did one that was willamette/EKG and turned out real nice - no sweetness over here just a really nice blend of hop flavour/aroma. Earthy.

I have yet to meet a hop I didn't like, but I am sure I will eventually. I haven't used them all yet.
