I got an e-mail they were holding my order till Monday so the yeast did not sit around all weekend. I like that kind of customer service.

Yeah, that's very helpful.  My yeast was wrapped in a foil envelope with an ice-pack thrown in.  I was cutting the grass and swimming on Tuesday (83° and sunny here) but today it's cold and windy.  :D  Can't wait to use this Staro yeast.

1056 is known as "Chico".  We call 2782 "Chongo".

I'll be honest... there are a lot of lager yeast strains out there and I make a lot of lagers.  I don't gush about many of them.  2124 will always be a great yeast for me and Bayern (which was first introduced to me as 2352 Munich 2) is really nice... you know how much I like it.  I have a fondness for 940.  I brewed with this yeast 2782 in 2009 and haven't used it since.  When I first brewed with it I was really impressed and happy with the results.  I'll occasionally use 2308 and S-189 as a dry alternate but I really don't gush about many other lager strains and there are a ton of them out there.  It's been so long since I brewed with 2782 that I can't even remember the character of it... I just remember that I like it.

The Staro yeast is available until December so you're not obligated to pull the trigger yet. Some places end up with extras of these private packs but I'll say this: I have called around near the end of a private run and many places are already out. Place an order in early December, brew the lagers in January and these beautiful beers will be ready to fly as soon as the spirit-crushing heat and humidity come back.

Well, if the demand is that strong, maybe they will bring it back. Commercially, if you give them enough time and it’s in the library, most places will grow it for you

Thinking about something like this with it https://brews-bros.c...©-vã½äepn/ .  I think that would be a nice compliment to what I have on tap already and I think a nice fall beer.

it looks like we bought it all.

in the past I've been able to call up an LHBS that carries wyeast and ask them to tack the private collection yeast onto their next shipment of stuff.

I've emailed them before to ask them to make it permanent.

Did you look under private strains?  That's where I found it.

i will say that while ritebrews prices are good once you factor in shipping it's not substantially different than buying stuff from the LHBS.

At the LHBS I would expect to pay $10 for the yeast, $2*17=$34 and not sure for the yeast nutrient so lets say $6.  grand total: $50.  I guess at least I didn't have to drive anywhere!

Ha ha, we put a run on a yeast strain. They probably ran out since I think they only had two or three packets left when I ordered yesterday. If you go to the pre-order page 2782 is listed there as available for pre-order. Looks like they will be ordering it on the 14th if you get your order in before then.

right!  I forgot I saw that.  should have mentioned it.  if time wasn't of the essence this would ensure fresh product.

Your time and gasoline are worth something. But yeah, like any other online store the further you are from the source the more expensive shipping is going to be. I’m pretty happy to be only three hours away from them since I’m not usually close to anything.

Right.  I chose SpeeDee as my shipping and it was $8 and that includes 15 pounds of pilsner malt too.  I also received the box about 27 hours after I placed the order.   :cabbagepatch:

Btw, as I was drinking this Oktoberfest last night (65/35 pils/Munich 2) I started noodling with the Czech Pils recipe again.  I realized that this Oktoberfest was close to the color of a Pilsner Urquell... just a bit darker.  I looked at a few recipes and found a number of things mentioning that a German Pils is very bright but that a Czech Pils has a deeper color to it.  So I think I'll use a 75/25 pils/munich 2 base and then use a half pound of carapils along with the same hop schedule I posted on page 2... all Saaz.  Brew, sample, tweak, repeat.
