Sitting on elements doesn't transfer heat as well as submersed elements.  Also the point of contact is smaller and I think it would be easier to scorch.

With the constant stiring I am not sure about the scorching.

Efficiency will be slightly less, but that will be mitigated by insulating the underside of the heating elements.  My pot has a 3 ply bottom, so i'm not worried about scorching.

Just throwing stuff out there.  Never brewed with NG but the Weber runs on it.  Not as hot as propane with the plumbing I have.  It works OK with a burner I have for deep frying and seafood boils but not great.

I thought the saying was "Once you go electric you never go back".

I guess JKor has some killer brewing equipment!  :)

I did. The impression i got is that they were questionable efficiency. You can get a 3500w version for a reasonable price. 5000w is quite a bit more. I don't remember the exact issue but i did research them and came to the conclusion it wasn't worth it.

Well, finally inspecting the barn basement. Turns out there's a subpanel with 220 already down there. Score!

This place is set up perfectly for an electric brewery. I can even tap mash water straight off the boiler. The space heater is 63kbtu. Lots of lighting and outlets down there, too. Although all the lights need to be replaced. Time to start some reno work...

I soldered a few boards but never used it because I brew with gas.I'm waiting for someone to invent a cheap propane gas valve that runs off 12v.

All but one of the ancient fluorescent light fixtures works too. Those things look about 30 yrs old, all rusted out, but they work!

Lots of tips but how many useful? I will read over there and see bad advice many times, just my observation.

I don't think i'm going to spend much money/time getting it set up. I just want an efficient space to brew. I'll probably rearrange the electrical a bit and add lighting but otherwise it's ready to go.

I haven't finished it but it's pretty close to being ready to use. I need to dig up all the parts from the move.
