Sneaking in a workday brewday tomorrow, an IPA featuring Mosaic and Columbus.

Grist will be my normal IPA grist, with Magnum to bitter, Columbus as FWH, and several large late additions of mostly Mosaic+ a bit of Columbus.

US-05 will handle the heavy lifting in the primary.

For those who've had it, this beer ended up being a very close clone of MadTree's Psychopathy IPA.  Very tasty.

Have not had their beer but I like a brewery that puts their recipes out there.

Getting my Vienna on this Sunday :)

Trying to get mine in on Friday late afternoon/early evening. Running over to the LHBS this afternoon to pick up 10 pounds of Weyermann Vienna.

Thanks for the kind words.  As for that bolded part, yup! Not sure what happened but 1450 started to work for me a few years back in a NEIPA of all beers, I am sure that makes Denny cringe :), and it has been used a lot since then.  Before I would have attenuation issues with it but that is no longer a problem for me.

Whatever you want to use it for is fine with me!

Brewing Rye IPA today.  Second time to use my Genesis fermenter.

I got this S-189 Vienna into the fermenter yesterday and it's slowly bubbling this morning. Unless I come up with another idea for the S-189, I'm going to shift to ales and get this 1469 up and running. A quick lager yeast inventory check tells me I have this Mangrove Jacks M76 Bavarian (the slow-start stories make me NOT want to use it) and also some WLP840 American Lager that I should probably use... it's about a year old. There is also another pack of S-189. On the ale side I have Omega West Coast which I would have to make a starter for, the 1469 and some S-04. I'll probably use the 1469 in an ESB, then the Cashmere Pale Ale and then some other ales with these off-the-map hops and at the same time I might make the starter for the Omega West Coast (similar to 1056) and run them parallel every other batch. The brewday yesterday was the first "cold weather" session... in the high 30s. <_<

I think I will have the time to whip something together late tonight. I built up some fresh 1450 and 1026 during the week in anticipation that I might get this time. Just need to decide which way I'm going to go. Either an APA with 1450 (probably something single hop and new to me; Denali, Cashmere, or Idaho 7) or an English-ish IPA with 1026 and a boatload of EKG and Fuggle. I also have a fresh pack of 1469 and want to get either a bitter or Brauer's porter made to put in my cask. My keg of sterling pils kicked last night and my festbier is getting awfully light so I really need to get a few things made.

How is that 1026? Of all the English yeast strains I have used I don't think I ever used it (Cask ale, right?). I just smacked my 1469 with the hope that it will get active over the next week.

I've only used it a few times and in beers that were quite hoppy so kinda hard to get a good feel for its character. Seems to make really nice hoppy ales. Those beers turned out very well so I bought a pack in January when it was out. Built it up in March expecting to brew with it and didn't. It sat in a mason jar under starter beer since then so I put it on the stir plate a few days ago and it took off after 6 hrs or so. The starter tasted great so I'm going to roll with it.

Here's what Yeast says...

A great yeast choice for any cask-conditioned British Ale and one that is especially well suited for hoppy bitters, IPAs and Australian ales. Produces a nice malt profile, and finishes crisp and slightly tart. Low to moderate fruit ester producer that clears well without filtration.

Mmm, sounds nice. Honestly, I have never met a liquid British ale strain that I didn't like... 1028, 1098, 1099, 1469, 1968, 1318 and I like the Irish one and the Scottish 1728 too. Great yeast strains that are mostly neutral but have just a little more going on. Can't wait to get this 1469 off the runway.

Gonna try something that's probably between a vienna and O'fest Friday.

6 lbs pils

3 lbs vienna

3 lbs munich

1/2 lb C60

Maybe a few oz melanoidin

1/2 oz Magnum (maybe a little more) 60 min

1 oz Halleratau 10 min

1 oz Halleratau Flameout

Saflager 34/70

Thoughts? Ingredients are bought, so I'm not changing much at this point.
