I can appreciate sour beers and their complexity/flavors, but I rarely buy them. Not my favorite style. But I can dig them if I'm in the mood.

I love sour beers, and drink a lot of them. I've been more on a Brett kick lately. But, in my opinion, it's tough to beat Rodenbach Grand Cru. I also really like La Terrior from New Belgium a lot.

Sour in the Rye

Picked up a bottle over the weekend to drink with my brother in law. Everything you want in a sour beer. $20 a bottle, though. Seems like that's the new price point for these kinds of beers.

I had SiTR when it was first bottled and given to Reserve Society Members.  I thought it was a real nice beer but I have not had it since.  I am also a fan of their Oude Tart.  I think with some age that beer is really nice, not as good as some of the Russian River beers though.

I would love to get my hand on more of the Crooked Stave beers, the ones I have had were very nice.

I had this one yesterday and it was excellent.

Drez, what do you think of a soured rauch?

I have had one and it worked.  The smoke level was not over the top but it was good.  IMO, smoked beer finished with bret would be very good.

I definitely enjoy sour beers and I'd say I'm in the mood more often than not if one is around.  I just don't buy them much due to cost.

We travel quite a bit, for hockey, and I will buy a bottle or two, when on the road.  At home, I buy 6 packs of IPA, most of the time. Right now, I am on a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed kick.

But seriously, can we get this thread locked?

I actually have a soured doppelbock. Not quite sure where the cross contamination came in to play, but it is a lovely mix. I had a lambic sitting idle under the pellicle, but in a different room. Either way, it is very different and tasty.

I agree that dobblebock makes an excellent sour beer profile. We had one go sour in our very first barrel years ago. What a pleasant memory!
