Sour in the Rye

Picked up a bottle over the weekend to drink with my brother in law. Everything you want in a sour beer. $20 a bottle, though. Seems like that's the new price point for these kinds of beers.

All of their beers are quite expensive. And quite tasty.

La Roja from Jolly Pumpkin is pretty damn good as well, and a bunch of belgians but I figured we were sticking with US beers

My old homebrew partner is now in charge of Boulevards barrel program. He blended and won Gold at GABF with his Love Child #3 last year.

I had some of Drez77's sours this weekend.  They were awesome...and not $20/bottle.  :)

Man, Goose Island is one of the breweries that I must visit some day. I've had a couple of their beers, I want to say there was a Red that was pretty good.  I'm not a huge fan of Red's but it was decent.  I'm more interested in their others like their seasonal impy stout.  :)

Yea. By the time we do a 60g batch and let our barrels sour up I'm in the $25-30 range for 5g of excellent barrel aged sour beer.

Ill score you some of their BCS (bourbon county stout) next winter. If you can though source those belgian farmhouse ales...AMAZING.

Both Crooked Stave and Funkwerks make some awesome sour beers, but alas they have very small distribution.

I like Crooked Stave. I'm sure they 100% Brett fermentations. I call those more wild type beers vs sours even though Brett can offer a very slight sourness.

Too rich for my bankroll these days.  Thus part of my inspiration to get off my duff and brew some stuff.  One of the guys out here did a very nice soured beer, I'll have to inquire what he did for it (I believe I heard it was a few iterations so he might have it dialed verse a one off but can't exactly recall).

I can dig it. I like sour over wild. There seems to be a number of brett beers out there right now.

I'm thinking I might give it a try towards the end of the summer. And then wait and wait and wait....

Still need to be careful calling it wild since Brett is a yeast.
