Yep, by standard aeration filter, I meant the sterile one that you would get with one of the kits you have seen... Beyond that, air is air... I love to use the red o2 tanks when I have them, but HD is a bit far from me, and sometimes I just have to do with what I have on hand as I can't shake up 11 gallons. This has worked pretty well for me.I'd definitely put a sterile filter in the line, but otherwise it's a perfectly logical idea.
