I'm a fan of the Biscuit myself although like others have stated Munich has a special place in my heart and beer.Not to hijack but does anybody else use Special B for color only?

I used to make 90% of my beers with Maris Otter, so I'd normally go with that, but since malt prices have gone up I've been using a lot of different base malts...and I like quite a few of them (Rahr is an excellent, and cheap base!). So now, I'll probably go with aromatic.....I use it in so many of my beers (though in small amounts). It lends a little complexity to the brew and a touch a maltiness.

I really dig special b, but it has such a strong caramel flavor, I think it'd be difficult to use just for color. Depending on what you were making, I'd probably use a tiny bit of debittered chocolate for color only.

Always used Weyermanns pale here but lately been using a Canadian 2 row...it's pretty good and got a bunch at a great price ( thanks Big Harry Deehl!) For my IPA's I like some aromatic and/or biscuit thrown in..

I use Special-B in quite a few beers, albeit in small amounts. I've used it in Nut Brown ales for added complexity with pretty good success.For coloring I would use a debittered chocolate or debittered black malt or add these later during the mash or at beginning of my sparge.

My favorite malt is Belgian-Franco Pils. What a wonderful complex flavor profile.

American 2-Row... I do a lot of APA's and get it by the 50 lb bag.. LHBS only supplies a few crystals, carapils, and maris otter in one pound bags.

Bought about 400 lbs of base malt in our last club order so that's what I've been using lately:Durst Pilsener malt (one of my favorite pils malts)Castle Pilsener malt (use it in most of my Belgians)Crisp Marris Otter (love the stuff)Gambrinus ESB malt (not bad at all for the price)Rahr 2-row (like it better than Great Western which is what I had been using)Durst Munich (my favorite Munich)Durst Vienna

Rahr 2-row and Rahr Premium Pils are some fine base malts IMHO. For the money they are hard to beat!

i get the fawcett and sons maris otter and use it for base in just about everything.
