Have you tried the Brett beer I sent you yet JD? Its not a sour but its a great intro into the styles. Also, I bet you can make a Wit at home and add a orange slice to your pint glass and be exactly what you want in that Blue Moon.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

For me, it is. Just a taste I can't do, to me it tastes spoiled.

Hoegaarden isn't sour, is it? I mean it's been awhile since I had one but I don't remember "sour". I've had Berliner Weiss beers that were sour and quite tasty but I don't remember Hoegaarden being that way.

Tart maybe. A lot of Belgian yeasts have a tartness to them...not sure if Hoegaarden is one of them.

OMG, I had a berliner weiss that they put on limes, soooo good. Tasted just like key lime pie.

Mmm, Bud Berliner Weiss Lime. Your go-to summer lime-flavored beverage.

This was a damn good beer. Don't try to desecrate it with your BMC dreams.

I just got back yesterday from a family function and my Mom wanted to give the guests beer to drink and Blue Moon was one of them. I had my own brew to share but there were many bottles of Blue Moon to go around too. I will say that I would call this beer as a pedestrian example of a Wit beer. The Wit character to me is sorta weak. I will not seek out Blue Moon in a restaurant or store for myself but I will drink it if offered and it is light years better than BMC.

yeah - I think your and others assessment is pretty spot on. not a bad beer but not quite as "wit-like" as more authentic examples.

Do you guys remember something that AB came out with that was Bud Light Wheat or something like that? It was cloudy and I thought it had some spice or something. They advertised the living shit out of it for about 6 months and it must have fallen from the sky because I didn't see it again.Oh yeah... Bud Light Golden Wheat. No longer available, I believe.AB also makes things like Bud & Clamato, Bud Light Lime-A-Rita, etc. It's unreal how many nutty products are out there. Not that Blue Moon is nutty but I think the Golden Wheat was supposed to compete with it.

AB also made a pale ale but I'm not sure it's still available either. When I saw the ads, I thought finally! With all the brewing expertise and technology that they can throw at a problem surely this will be a good beer. Incorrect assumption #22895. I had one at an airport (going full circle here) and couldn't finish it. No malt, no hops, the only flavor it had was this thin salty, vaguely beer-like flavor.

If they didn't try to promote the lowest common denominator for their "craft" beers then they would probably sell enough to keep brewing. I don't understand how they why they would try to break into a market dominated by great beers with that crap.

Seems to be like the last thing they'd want to do is create a crossover beer to introduce their consumer base to a whole wide world of better beer. You'd think they would want to keep their customers in the dark. Nooooo, you don't want to drink that stuff. It'll make you go blind and grow fingers from your neck.

The thing is that they have the best brewers/facilities in the world. If they made a great beer it would sell and all the little guys would be in trouble.

Exactly right. That's why I had high hopes for the pale ale.

Are you referring to that American Ale thing? Yeah, that was a huge bust, apparently. Again... you saw it advertised everywhere but it eventually fell from grace. Occasionally there would be an AB "Premium Pack" or something to that effect that had an AB Pale Ale, Marzen, Amber Lager and a couple others. You would see it in specialty stores and it might be a 12-pk with a glass in it or something. IIRC, these were actually nice beers. Not named "Budweiser"-something but AB or maybe even Michelob. Michelob Pale Ale, Michelob Marzen, etc. It's on THIS page. These were not stellar beers but much better than their standard offers.

THIS?I had high hopes too just to see if they could get out of their box. Nope. It looks nice and totally something that would get my attention. I tried it and was disappointed & not surprised.

The king of beers joins the peasants in the craft brew section. Budweiser American Ale ($7/6-pack) is a new American-style ale with rich amber color and big flavor. It's what microbrew ale would taste like if they had the billion dollar R&D Marketing department of Anheuser-Busch. Available now nationwide on draught, you'll be able to buy it in bottles on the 29th.
