A pump and a float switch are your friends. I can go sit down and have lunch or dinner with the family while the sparge is taking place. Without those tools, I would likely still batch sparge.

I gravity feed through a float switch, but yes, you're right. I weigh out hops, eat, etc during the sparge.Beach

I barely have time to take a leak during my sparge.

I had a brewer come over to brew a batch with me and we were fly sparging and he noted it was the longest sparge he ever seen.A little over an hour for 17.5g preboil isn't that long considering when done sparging we were at boil. I also figure out my hops and get other things done during my sparge. Beats switching hoses around the entire time.

That's what I was thinking too. Just about the busiest time of the brew day for me.

I dont have ball floats or anything of the sort. Once you figure out the in/out rate you can walk away. I do.

I batch sparge and I am always worried about something coming loose, losing wort, or the pump running dry.
