Now, I have been known, from time to time, to say that Sierra Nevada, while good, is not the king of beers. However, while waiting for my date last night, I had a Sam Adams (just the regular Boston Lager). SN is 5 times the beer SA is. No question.

Word.SA Boston Lager does not age well at all. I'm guessing you got an old one. It is pretty good beer when it is really fresh, but WE RULE!*evil laughMolBasser

i was really surprised to the difference between sam adams we get here and sam adams at the jamaca plains brewery. in boston, it's good stuff. in new mexico, it sucks ass.which, to me, begs the question: why doesn't it age well? what do you guys do that makes your beer age better? if you want, we can delay the conversation until march.

I don't know why it doesn't age well. I'm not familiar with the data. There are lots of possibilities.Distributor abuse?Formula?TPO?MolBasser

I have always said that SNPA tastes better the closer you get to Chico, CA. Probably true with Sam Adams too. I have never liked their Boston Lager very much, but I do like their Oktoberfest.I am really picky about which 12 pack I will take home when I get SNPA. Thanks, basser, for telling me how to read the codes!Cheers,Rich

I think sa just sits around longer and is manhandled by the bmc distributors. fresh boston lager can be a thing of beauty. bottled i'm not touching it unless its the only thing else in a cooler full of natty lights. I will by their seasonals when they first get released but more for the bottles then anything else.

I missed the previous mentions of how to tell when SN products were bottled. That's freakin awesome. Now I know that tonight I am drinking Torpedo that was bottled on August 19, 2010 on line 1 at 3:41pm.My gullet tells me they did a good job bottling that day. :frank:

I'm not that far from Boston (5 hours by car) and I got it because it was on tap. I forgot they had Yeungling there. Next time I'll get that. My other choice was Labbatte's.

:frank:The first 4 numbers are all that you really need to know. The others are for us if there is an issue.Just know what date it was bottled. The younger the better (you will never see a Pale in the market under 21 days old).MolBasser

I drank a June 10th Pale last night :frank: It did'nt have quite the bite I'm accustomed to, now I know why! By the way, I've mentioned this before, but I love SN and hate, hate, hate, SA.

It was a sixer, seems like the 12's I get are younger for some reason.

Distributors buy different amounts of allotments for those different packages. Looks like they sell more 12ers than 6 packs.MolBasser
