IMHO,That would be two pillow blocks and a flex coupling.

$$ might as well buy a gearmotor and spider coupling................

You can get a torque limiter coupling (like whats on most drills) if you are worried about wrecking the mill with a direct drive motor. Look for a dead cordless drill and you can probably get it for free.

And that gearmotor would be?Hey, I'm with you here DJ. But gearmotors are getting a bit rare.I know, I'm looking for a bunch for my next mill project.

I'd probably try the one Breakpoint asked about this motor I don't know if it has enough torque though. I'd guess if you started with the mill empty it would work - but as I said - just a guess...........

sure sounds like there is a market for a direct drive geared motor for homebrew mills. :D

40 in/lbs is not a lot of torque. Typically enough to open/close a 1/2" ball valve. Don't think it would perform well under load.
