So have any of you ever experienced contaminated gas infecting your beers?

Asking for a friend

No seriously, I'm asking for a friend, a fellow BJCP judge from CRABS in Balmer moved to Jonesborough TN. A very competent brewer, he started using tank refills down here in TN and after a month on tap his beers started tasting funky. He's been here in TN and brewing for 2 years (obviously planned a lot better than I did) and ran out of CO2 for dispensing. The vendor will give no details on where he gets the gas. Any ideas folks?

I haven't experienced this, no. Seems worth trying another source of he thinks that's the issue.

can always throw one of these in line after the regulator.  Will it help ?  I am not sure but it is not much investment.

Nope, never had it happen. Not impossible, but I'd start looking at other things.

There is a pretty good episode of the MBAA podcast about this. It certainly can happen. However most of the contamination issues that they discuss have more to do with foreign substances like oils than micro contams. Its been a while since I listened to it but that is a fantastic podcast in general so worth a listen
