By this I mean the chemical part.  I have a small pump I can recirc my lines with.  I just ran out of BLC (I have a pretty weak mix circulating right now).  It seems like a bottle does not last that long because you have to use quite a bit of it (1/2oz per quart).  I usually use about 6 quarts because it adequately covers the submersible pump.

So is there a more cost effective option that's just as good?

the other thing I see is that a similar 5 star product uses 1/2 oz per gallon instead of 1/2 oz per quart.  anyone have any experience with LLC?

True.  The price on mine was 17.99 on the bottle but it was from my local store.

so I'm shopping around a little bit and figured I may as well get some brewtan-b while I'm at it... not many HBS seems to sell it.  has this product fallen out of favor?  I still use it on every batch.

I think many use it but it may have not taken off with the newer brewers.  I still use it myself every batch

I have.  At the time they were the only place that had the Tapcooler Can filler.  I had no issues with them other than they sent my order twice.  I sent the second back after they gave me a shipping label.  They did tell me to just keep the yeast that was in there since it would not be any good after the return.

just bought the 2 pack of BLC from amazon.  time is money!  :crybaby:

at some point I'll need to find a good source of brewtan b though.  seems like williams has the best price but I wish there were better options.

It’s crazy how expensive line cleaner has gotten. Honestly, I’d probably just use a weak dilution of PBW. With the money you save, if you think it’s detrimental to your lines, just replace them every so often. I’ve had good luck at work with brown caustic (sodium hydroxide) but I know that’s not something most home brewers use.

I think that's what the 5 star line cleaner is.  I would have maybe bought that but I didn't have a convenient option.

Five Star reccomends 1-2 oz of PBW be used in 1 gallon of hot water. Seems like it'd work fine, it's ingredients aren't much different from some dedicated line cleaners.

Heck, BLC is liquid lye with some surfactants.

1-2 oz per gal sounds high to me. I’d say half that

so I cleaned the lines with more BLC recently, rinsed and then circulated starsan through them and put some kegs on tap.  the bo pils I made suddenly seems like the head immediately just fizzles away now that I'm not using a picnic tap.  is there residual cleaner in the lines or something?  I don't get it since I pushed both water and star san through them.
