Out of curiosity, why a preference for Wyeast?

Because it's better!

Honest question, is that anecdotal, or proven some how or a joke?  Or better because they are from Oregon and have 1450  :)

Partially a joke.  Mainly because I've always had better luck with it than White.

Never any problems with either here. I just use what is convenient or if I'm looking for a yeast that only one of them carries that decided for me.

Ok, just took the plunge back into the world of liquid yeast.

Ordered a smackpack each of 2124 Bohemian lager, 1028 London ale, and 3711 saison.  Also sprung for the ice pack and foil mailer for each smackpack, to try to ensure the yeast doesn't die in transit.

Ritebrew, don't let me down!

Hooray for the 2124 and 1028!

You'll like the beers you make with them.

Agreed; 1028 and I are old friends.  Haven't used it in a few years, but it makes kiler ales.  Great Lakes uses it in their Burning River Ale, my all-time fav pale ale.

I'm looking forward to renewing acquaintances with 2124; it made me some of the best lagers I've made in 18 years of brewing.  34/70 has been good to me, but it's tough to be beat the original.

3711 I've not used before, but I've heard good things for many years about it.  Haven't made a saison in a good 4 years, so it's time to break that rut.

One thing to keep in mind about 3711 is that it's a diastaticus strain.

I've been reading up on that since I placed my order.

Might have to dedicate a fermenter to it, along with a new set of racking equipment.

Mmm.  The yeast can cause "hyperattenuation", gushing and "package failure" (read: exploding bottles).  Watch out for shrapnel.

Good thing all of my beers are kegged. :D

I've read lots of conflicting info re: 3711, specifically about diastaticus.  Some say no issues, some say they got bottle bombs.

Thought I made a mistake in ordering 3711; thought maybe I should've ordered 3726, then I saw that too was a diastaticus strain.

Never had any issues w/ 3726, so I'm reasonably confident that 3711 will be ok.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having issues with 3711.  Just something to be aware of.

Even still, a word of warning is welcome.

If I got a slug of bad yeast and my beer went poor, my assumption would be that I screwed up, not the yeast.

I guess I am lucky. I got a More Beer, they carry Wyeast and White Labs. One More Beer 20 minutes north, one 30 minutes south.
