It's been a while since a young man on College Christmas break with wet hair from a shower was sitting at the kitchen table when I showed up.  He only said one thing "well"?.  I knew..........

December 2004 and Drew turned 21 in September that year.  So we went to the LHBS and the hardware store (needed an IC).  I had saved enough stuff from the first run in the early '80s so that was all we needed to brew.  And we did - just like riding a bike.  I think we banged out 5 gallons of extract in 5 hours from leaving the house.  It was good.  I don't have most of my notes from then but the wife found some.  I really don't know how many batches were brewed then.

Anyway this next one is batch 489 from round 2.  Drew has been brewing pro for over 10 years now - currently at Braindead in Dallas.

So, batch 500 is coming soon.  I really am not into the super malty high ABV stuff lately.  I need suggestions.

OTOH, I may brew it and forget until a few batches later..............B)

Pretty sure it was an extract ESB.  He went back to school and said screw that and went AG without ever watching one for the next batch as I recall.  The STL Brews adopted him - good people - got to know a bunch of them

Maybe an all-grain batch of that same ESB, or something along those lines?

I like that and really had not considered it for whatever reason.  Thanks.  We shall see.

Sounds like you might begin 500 by delving into the world of Mild's or dare I say... Sessionable's. Creating a very easy drinking ale or lager where you can have a few is a cool concept these days but getting the right amount of body, malt, flavor, bitterness and finish is where the finesse is. I write that like I have any earthly idea...... :)
