Uhhh, inflation? Compacted with the fact that you weren't used to the prices at the "New-to-me LHBS"what's the deal?

Yep, supply and demand. But while a certain number of people will be willing to pay $4 for a pack of dry yeast, there will be another number of people who will decide that price is too steep. Those people may start re-pitching dry yeast, or may decide to turn to liquid yeast and start re-pitching it to save money. At some point, the increased revenue from the price increase will be offset by the lost sales. At $4 a pop, I'm nearing the point where I will probably purchase fewer packs of US-05, and start stretching my liquid cultures a further number of generations.Any given product is "worth" what people will pay for it. If they charge $4 and you paid for it, then it's worth $4.

Wyeast 1056 - my go to yeast.+1 on using more liquid. I have been using us-05 as my house yeast namely because i have no clue when i will brew or what i will brew so its quick, easy, and dependable...but if my lhbs hits me up for 4 a pack i will definitely make time to do a starter and reuse liquid strains again and again.

One of my favorite dry yeasts, Nottingham, is still $1.60 a pouch at B3.Remember the saying, "I never bother to re-use dry yeast 'cause it's so cheap"?Welcome to the new economy.I always used to keep a pack or three around in case I flubbed the starter, or I decided to do a partigyle on the spur of the moment on a brewday.
