I think there is a reason that 5 gallon batches are so common. It's enough that it's not gone immediately but not so much that you lack variety. I only brewed 7 times (10 gal batches) last year and I still have a lot of beer right now.

When I brewed with the US rather than the GR there wasn't anything offensive as I recall. It just wasn't what I expected/wanted. It's been long enough ago that I don't remember much else.
