I've been considering trying to find a person who I trust would enjoy most of what I brew and getting them set up to serve from corny kegs.

It does help.  I love the brewing process but sometimes get stuck with too much beer.  Being able to get a keg or two moved helps out.

I've been mostly handing out growlers to friends on Fridays. Sometimes I don't like what putting the beer in a growler does to it though. I have been telling people that it should be consumed right away and mostly they do that. I did have one guy later tell me he let his sit for 3 weeks though.

ETA: yeah, Like Drez I'll end up with too much beer if I don't pass it out to people.

I do this too and some of my growlers are still out.  I have a neighbor on the next block over and he's always asking me about beer, what I'm brewing, etc. so sometimes I'll bottle the last 12 beers in a keg or fill a growler and bring it over there.  Always good to pass it around... as long as it's good!  I think my dad has 2 of my 4 growlers.  Or... just invite some buds over.  That oughtta do it.  Cheers.

I have people over when I can but since they usually have to drive after that only means a few pints are consumed per person.  I guess I could start giving out growler but that could almost go too far!

I have a few people regularly asking me for beer.  My problem is not having enough to give out!  One friend wants to set my 10gal system up at his place, which would make that easier.  We'll see.  I'm not sure I want to commit to that even though it would be nice to have 10 gallons of some of the brews I've been making regularly.

I think there is a reason that 5 gallon batches are so common.  It's enough that it's not gone immediately but not so much that you lack variety.  I only brewed 7 times (10 gal batches) last year and I still have a lot of beer right now.

I've made 11 batches since July and I only have one 3 gal keg serving and one batch in primary.

One of the reasons I went back to 5's.  I am seriously thinking of selling my 10g ferementers.  I have already converted 2 over to grain storage.

seems like we are brewing beer at a similar rate.  I guess I don't drink enough

if I was giving away 1/4 (in addition to what I already give away) of what I brew I'd be in a pretty good place I think in terms of variety and the amount of brewing (time wise) that I can support.

As an aside, one nice option is the bottling of the last 10-12 beers from a keg with low pressure and just a cobra tap.  Yes, you have to clean and sanitize the bottles but filling bottles this way, capping them immediately and throwing them in the fridge makes for some decent long-term beer storage.  I filled 25-30 bottles of a raspberry ale from a keg this way.  I did it because my two nieces really liked this beer and I thought I would try to save some for the next time they came by.  I must have bottled them AT LEAST a year ago.  This past December my sister was in town and I told her I had a raspberry ale in bottles and she was interested.  I said, "We should check and make sure they're okay first" and sure enough... plenty of carb and a smooth, decicious beer.  Boom.

I have done that before.  I just hate bottling.  I even have a beer gun!

the whole reason I went to kegging was to avoid bottling.  that's why I mentioned having a person I could donate whole kegs of beer to.

Sell neddles your beer gun. He's not always happy with how his beers come out after being growlered or bottled.

Well, my total output is only like 30 gallons in that time and I probably gave 5+ gallons away and have ~5 left between serving and primary.  So, I've really only gone through 20 gal, at most, in 7 months.

I agree that I hate bottling but if it's something you do very rarely and you can use it as an occasional tool... I'll do it.  Plus, as a beer drinker and beer lover, I love draft beer but there's just something about "a bottle of beer" that has a good vibe to it.
