I harvested 20 gallon from my Solera barrel tonight, adding back 20 gallon of fermented beer. Very tasty. About 6 months ago I harvested 10 with 10 gallon added back to the barrel. Question is should I add some fresh bugs to the barrel? Or will the will the bugs left in the barrel sustain it?

How much are you leaving in the barrrel?New Belgium uses/has used 10% left behind in the tanks of La Folie to maintain the culture.

You'll be good. The bugs will multiply with the fresh beer.

I think the barrell is ruined and you will need to send it to me.

I only pulled 20 gallon out of the 55 gallon barrel. It should be enough to last me 6 months, since I mix it and seldom drink it straight.I have been wondering about the life expectancy of the beer in the barrel? How many years the beer well stay good and how long will the bugs stay in balance?Trying to decide when to start my next barrel so I can keep the sour beer flowing.

Noticed I had very slow bubbles in my Sour barrels air lock. So someone is eating.
