My only base is MO, but I've got many shades of caramel, chocolate, BP, roasted barley, C-pils, vienna, munich, victory, biscuit..... hmmm... maybe a few other random ones, plus flaked barley, oats, and rice.

I like the grain to have a little character to it , not like the straight grain that you get in oak or maple.

My Irish ales has small percentages of special roast, biscuit and a bit of chocolate for a nice red color. Also, cooking your beer over gas makes for a cleaner flavour with no soot.

No. A president that shall not be named had us burn all BCS-related material.

Shouldn't have done that. There is a recipe for a dry, sweet, oatmeal, foreign extra, American & RIS in there.

I can't drink them, it's just too big a beer for me. Matter of fact, I don't even brew anything darker than a brown. Takes me too long to ever get through a keg. Last stout I brewed was Jim V's Oatmeal and I gave about 7 gallons away. My stout drinking buddy still swears by that beer. I haven't brewed a porter or stout in a couple years now.

Say it with me miccullen......... I P A's, Vienna Lagers, Ambers, Kolschs, Alts, Pale Ales, Pils, ESB's. You can have the porters and stouts. If I get a hankering for one, I'll buy a 6'er, that way I dont have a tap handle tied up forever.

The differences among beer drinkers are so interesting. I always have a porter and a stout pouring. And the beer I brew the most often is a robust porter because we go through it so quickly. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, we will kick the robust porter in about 6 weeks.

I get it, but ilove me some dark beers I almost have to have a stout on tap at all times, and an IPA, and a lighter Pale, and maybe a specialty, right now I don't have a dark beer , damn Lou, thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the styles, it just takes me forever to blow a keg. One guy in the club loves dark beers and brews them heavily, so I can get my quench for them satisfied by him.At the fest last weekend one member brought a 1750 Porter that had aged for 2 yrs and some of that time was on oak. I drank 3-4 of them. It wsa really good. The RIS? I think I had the same one Yukon mentioned. Forgetaboutit. I just cant do it.
