Can or should fresh hops be dried in the oven?

I don't know why not, if you have a dehydrate setting. I don't think you could fit many in there, though.

If it is a regular oven, I'd think you could fit a boat load in there. Certainly not packed in, you do need a little airflow.

I was assuming he only had the two shelves. They need to be a single layer. I guess you could rig something for extra shelves.

I can fit three shelves in the oven. My concern is the oven too hot even on the dehydrate setting (140 degrees)?

I think I recall that temp to be about right, maybe slightly over, but just a little less timeEDIT: I'm sure you could kinda double up on the layer of hops in an oven. Does it have a convection fan or something? And if you have those bakers wire trays, even better

I'm no expert here so this may be cranio-rectal inversion but wouldn't heating them up evaporate a lot of the oils?

That's higher than commercial growers usually use. Their average is 130-135. When I tried that setting, I found it too hot for my liking. I generally use about 100-110F these days, but I experiment on every harvest.

I got a batch of fresh cascades from a buddy of mine. I just spread them out on cookie sheets and dried them on my dining room table. It took several days, but ended up very nicely dried. I vacuum sealed and put in the freezer.
