I'm not sure how much they contribute to the flavor in secondary. I only use 1oz of medium toast Hungarian Oak.

I have used 1/2 oz when I have made it.  I liked the final product and I think 1oz would be where I go next time.

I know Denny doesn't care for oak. I just thought if I was trying to mimic using an oak barrel to age, then there should be at least an ounce in the mix. It isn't even close to overwhelming. My palate isn't all the discerning. Sometimes I think I can detect it, other times I can't.

I have aged that recipe in a barrel once and it was excellent.  The vanilla from teh oak and the vanilla beans played so well together.  One of these days I want to do that again but for simplicity the cubes do the trick now.

What time is everyone planning on arriving? My leave was approved for Thursday. So I'll be there no later than 2pm hopefully. We should try to camp together like last time.

For sure. I have to work in the AM so I'm hoping to get up there by 7pm on Thursday. Bringing the pop-up again. P_solio is riding up with a friend now but didn't say when he is leaving.

I messaged Rich. Since it looks like I'll be getting there first, do you want to to stake out some land near the CRABS camp?

Cool with me. Is the camping in the same field? It's hard to tell but on the website it looks different.

I can't find the map. I wouldn't think they'd change it that much. Maybe Mac knows.

Seems to me we were in the field to the right of this one labeled as New Field Camp. Either way as long as there is a spot I park the ol pop-up I'm good.

We were. It looks like they've shifted the area to where the NoVa people were last year.

Yes we were to the right of the camping field on the map last year. We are in a different field the other side of the fence where NoVa was. The one that is in front of where keg row and the common area was. I think it was a garden last year.

I think there is a green house or something in the old camping field now.

Gotcha. I think I have a good contender for the seafood comp. I'm eating a practice run right now and it's pretty dang good! I have a few tweaks for game day but you better bring your A game.

I think I have a good entry ready. Not flashy, but tastey.

tasting and checking the carb levels for the beers I'm bringing now.

Nice! As for beers I will be bringing a Gose and a Rye IPA. Gose is carbing now. Will use Rye IPA for Friday night pairing with Reubens.

Kegged my Gose tonight. I will force carb it tomorrow. BVIP and Black IPA get kegged and force carbed this weekend.

3 kegs carbed and more or less ready to go. I wish I had more than a week to cold condition them. Especially the BVIP.
