so for the tablets, 15 minutes before end of boil

max, anecdotal evidence suggests whirl-pooling above 90°C is adequate as well

it also seems to indicate that higher gravity wort needs more product, as the pitching rate of 2 tablets per bbl listed is for a pretty weak wort @10P or 1.040 SG

this pdf explains kettle fining better than anything else I've ever read,

Kettle finings should be added to the boil ten minutes

prior to the end of the boil for a semi-refined product and
five minutes for a refined material. The addition times
reflect the length of time required to dissolve and
disperse the carrageenan into the wort. Should kettle
finings be added too early in the boil, then degradation
of the polymer will occur and product efficiency is lost.
The reaction between wort proteins and k-carrageenan is
pH dependent and occurs at an optimum pH of 5.3.
Below pH 4.4, the reaction does not occur and little
benefit is gained from using kettle finings.

Uh, I've always put it in with 15mins to go. Maybe I'll switch to 10.

I wonder how hard it'd be to get ahold of some of the Granulated type?

Granulated Whirfloc sounds suspiciously like "Supermoss".  <_<

Lifetime supply!

Anyways, I was always under then impression Super Moss and Whirlfloc are the same thing. Just in a different form. I had excellent luck using the SM but it does need hydrated. A easy extra step but not as easy as tossing in a Whirlfloc tab.

1 Whirlfloc tab per 10 gallons at 5 minutes is what I do (per manufacturer's instructions).
