Has anyone had a problem caused by not tethering the bag to the lid (or elsewhere) and just letting the bag float free?
I have. It didn't float...it sunk.

Guess that probably means loading with marbles is unnecessary.
I've had them sink, but just blew them off with a shot of CO2 down the dip tube and didn't recur.

I've said for years that it's unnecessary to weight hop bags.

Yeah, it seems to me if the hops are wet then they're in sufficient contact with the beer.

I've jumped beers keg to keg that needed a hop boost due to age through a Hop Rocket with very excellent results.

do you co2 purge the rocket to prevent oxidation?

The only time I've had an issue is when the bag comes untied, then the free hops will clog a dip tube. I've only had that problem once, I learned from my mistake and now make sure they are securely tied.
