I made this beer today. I spent some time doing some homework on it because the online recipes were all over the place. I concentrated on people who seemed determined to get it right, tweaking it, brewing it again, etc. and ended up with this recipe. Yuengling is not distributed in Illinois so I cannot compare it except for the mental notes I have from the very few times I tried it. The last time was at Reagan airport in DC and it was fresh, draft and delicious.
Pottsville Traditional Lager
7.5 lbs Best Malz Pilsner malt
1.5 lbs flaked corn
6 ounces crystal 60L
2 ounces crystal 120L
½ oz Cascade pellets 7.5% for 60
½ oz Cluster pellets 7.2% for 10
Wyeast 2035 American Lager yeast
OG: 1.052, FG: 1.012, IBU: 22, SRM: 8, ABV: 5.0%
I used 50% distilled water and mashed at 150.5° for 60 mins. The yeast was in a starter, on the stirplate and looked foamy and active at pitching. I have not used this yeast in many years so my fingers are crossed that it's got a good profile and makes this beer close to what I remember. Anyone with any feedback or thoughts, LMK.
