I don't find glassware is as important to my experience for most beers. a beer out of a shaker seems to taste just fine to me as long as the glass is clean.I personally don't care what a glass looks like so long as it increases the overall experience of drinking the beer. I have all but completely stopped using shaker glasses for drinking beer at home.

It dims the aroma for beers where it matters. If you have a complex malty/hoppy beer it will be much harder to distinguish the finer characteristics. Of course this is level 10 beer nerdery, but since I'm trying to become a BJCP certified judge, I'm focusing on honing my palate.I don't find glassware is as important to my experience for most beers. a beer out of a shaker seems to taste just fine to me as long as the glass is clean.

I can tell aroma differences. particularly using the typical belgian beer type glass. that really seems to trap some things as you bring it up to your face. when I drink belgian beer I almost always use my ommegang glass. that's more of the exception though. my most common glass is one of those pint glasses that would be common for guinness that has the bumped out part near the top. sort of a modified shaker. I like this glass b/c it fits in my hand nicely and the bump makes it so the glass can't slide out if I've had too many :PI've tried the SA glasses and I think they make some difference but not enough for me to really care. I just figure the experience is slightly different using different glassware. It dims the aroma for beers where it matters. Ive never been to a comp yet where beer styles are paired with the proper glassware. It dims the aroma for beers where it matters. That's the worst part of judging. You judge out of those plastic head-killing solo cups. I've always wanted to bring my own tasting glass to comps but I figured that would result in me being "that guy".Ive never been to a comp yet where beer styles are paired with the proper glassware.

Too late :DI want this glass for my collection. I love beer glassware. Shakers do not cut it for me. The way that the glass fits into my hand plays a role in my enjoyment of the beverage from an ergonomic standpoint. The shape looks like it should be nice for IPAs..That's the worst part of judging. This. I wanted to get snifters for the comp team to use, but they nixed the idea. That's the worst part of judging. You judge out of those plastic head-killing solo cups. I've always wanted to bring my own tasting glass to comps but I figured that would result in me being "that guy".

I've run out of room for all my beer glasses. Gonna have to get a dedicated cabinet. My mom just informed me the other day that my step grandfather left me all of his beer glasses from Germany. His grandchildren took the steins but left all the glassware. Gonna be shipped down to me soon.I keep 3 types of glass around. Nobody really needs more than that imo. I keep a snifter, tulip, and a shaker. Snifter gets big beers (hoppy ones too) tulip gets my Belgians, and the shaker gets session beers. Really dont need anything else.
