So its been many many years since I brewed, probably 4-5 years due to kid, job, life in general. But now its time to get back in the game.I have all the equipment I need except a propane burner and a decent pot. I bought a turkey coooker combo previously. However, a friend of mine says she wants to get me what I need for Christmas. I can't remember what the ideal BTU is, but what about this for a burner. What about this:https://www.northern...uct_15490_15490If not, what would you ask for within reason? I figure if she will buy that, then she could also get this:https://www.kitchena...Pot/?s=aXw2NA==(I guess I would need a bigger pot to do 5 gallon full boils)Or do you have a combo you could recommend?

There was another thread about drilling your own holes if you want to put in a thermometer or drain port. Might want to check that out too.Or, if you are lazy and someone wants to buy you a gift:https://www.homebrew...eel-kettle.htmlThat's what I have. Surprisingly good quality. I bought a bazooka screen off of ebay for about $11 shipped. You'll need an adapter to hook it up though.FWIW, I didn't look at the price when I pasted that link. When I bought mine, it was on sale.EDIT:Welcome back! Maybe now I can find an excuse to have some beers with you in AVL. I just kegged a brew this week that I really like. When it's fully carbed I could probably put some in a growler and bring it over.

I think the size of your burner should be related to the amount of liquid you'll be heating/boiling. The one you indicated is listed as 35,000 BTU. If you're going to use a 20-quart pot, then that should be sufficient. If you're going to use something like a 15.5 gal keg-type pot, then I'd suggest a burner with at least 50,000 BTU. The biggest variable is how long it takes to heat a given volume of liquid. I use 15.5 gal pots and use natural gas as fuel with 62,000 BTU burners. Once the BK starts boiling, it doesn't take a huge burner to keep it going and I have to throttle the gas flow down. Otherwise, there's a big boilover.

And there's usually good sales on them after Thanksgiving.

I have both those burners. The bottom one is crap and blows through propane like crazy. Got the top one and it works great.
