All the quotes I've read from the existing breweries have been positive. They recognize they may lose some market share - although both brands are already available locally - but understand they may have to step their games up.An interesting thought was floated by a fellow beer geek who's opinions I respect after the announcement. Will two "800 lb gorillas" of craft beer landing in Asheville change the whole dynamic of the place? Will the really small craft guys that made Asheville such a neat place to visit (French broad, Green Man, Wedge etc..) get forgotten once those two move in? Didn't 100% agree with him, but it did make me think a bit about it..

I don't think it will change it one bit. It might well make them stronger, IMO. Most all of them have their own personalities and are very cool to go to. It won't go away. Too many hippies, yo!An interesting thought was floated by a fellow beer geek who's opinions I respect after the announcement. Sometimes in cases like this the local populace will become even more loyal to "their" breweries. An interesting thought was floated by a fellow beer geek who's opinions I respect after the announcement. I think NOTHING will change. In fact it will solidify the craft beer movement in NC. While Sierra Nevada and New Belgium are craft brews, there are still not the "local" born breweries. You can not replace the small guys. If anything it will make them better brewers and they have an established local following. The local purists will still be loyal to their hometown brews. An interesting thought was floated by a fellow beer geek who's opinions I respect after the announcement.
